Comparing Mavic 2 PRO and Mavic 2 ZOOM Drones

Specification Comparison and Reviews

Two new drones have been added to the Mavic 2 series named as, Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 zoom. This article will be a detailed comparison between the two drone models (Mavic 2 Pro vs Mavic 2 Zoom).
Previously, Mavic Pro and Mavic air were the two famous drones by Mavic with some outstanding features. However, after the introduction of Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom, Mavic 2 drones are considered as one of the best drones available in the market.
Today, we will compare these new models based on different features, and in the end, we will find out the best one among the two.

Mavic 2 Pro vs Mavic 2 Zoom

Comparison of Mavic 2 Pro vs Mavic 2 zoom

We will compare both models based on the following features:

Camera design

When it comes to camera design, we can clearly say that the Mavic 2 Zoom has a great camera design. It is small in size and has an asymmetrical shape with a rounded design. The ND (neutral density) filters of this camera have no comparison. On the other hand, Mavic 2 Pro camera has a square design, and it might seem large in the images. But in actuality, it has a small size.

The best part of this camera is the availability of a large sensor in such a small camera. Other than the perfect cameras, both of the drones have a sleek design and seem alike at first sight. However, one can point out the differences in a closer look. The presence of LED lights on the back arms and on the bottom makes them look super chic and classy while flying.

Camera zoom vs. no zoom

When it’s about the comparison on the camera lens, you will be shocked to know that Mavic 2 Pro has a fixed lens camera. On the other hand, the Mavic 2 Zoom drone has a zoom lens. Mavic 2 zoom camera allows you to take a 24mm field view at the wider side and 48mm at the narrow end.

It means, with Mavic 2 zoom camera, you will be able to take a different kind of shots. In the wider fields, you can zoom in your subject, and make the image look classier. The zoom lens works best when you are in public, and you can’t instruct everyone, so you just zoom in your subject, and leave every other thing behind. In addition to this, you don’t have to go very near to the people or things for a great capturing. Instead, you can capture the perfect image from a distant location.

Photo quality

The photo quality of both cameras has a clear distinction. In the previous Mavic pro version, there was not D-HDR photo feature available. However, this photo mode is available in both of the latest drones. This mode works by taking a burst of seven raw photos and then combine them for getting dynamic range 13 stops on the Mavic 2 Zoom, and dynamic range 14 stops on the Mavic 2 pro. It is a great feature for reducing the motion blur and other such artifacts. So, the next time you wish for taking the traditional exposure bracketed shots, leave the stress of motion blur to the Mavic 2 Pro or Mavic 2 Zoom drone.

HyperLight and Super-resolution

The hyperlight feature is responsible for taking a series of photos and then combines them together to get the best results, especially during the night. In addition to this, it is a great way to reduce the image noise that is very common in night photos. This feature is available in both drones and has no comparison due to the traditional long exposure of the drone cameras.
Other than that, the Mavic 2 Zoom has a zoom lens with a super-resolution shooting mode. It means using this feature, and you will be able to take multiple images at once and then combine them together into a super-resolution image, which is around four times the resolution of a standard image. Isn’t it amazing? However, the only thing to focus on is to take images at a still position because it will combine multiple images so any movement can cause distortion. The scene and the drone must be still to take the photos. It works perfectly with the landscape images.

Better colors and camera sensor

As we have talked above about the super-resolution feature of Mavic 2 Zoom, it doesn’t exist in the Mavic 2 pro. However, it has a 20-megapixel camera sensor, which means you can take quality-ensured photos that are good enough to take with super-resolution features. In addition to this, you don’t have to worry about the movements during capturing because the pixels are real.
Also, Mavic 2 Pro has the most amazing image colors that you can use to make your image look flawless. However, if you shoot in Raw, then you definitely need to process those images with some software to ensure that your images have the best color results.

Better low light shooting and adjustable aperture

Mavic 2 zoom has not big enough pixels than the Mavic 2 pro. By increasing the resolution, the size of each pixel decrease on the image sensor, which means less light hitting on the individual pixel. It works worst in the low light and has an adverse effect on on-camera performance. However, with bigger pixel size, this issue can be resolved. Like, in Mavic 2 Pro, the image sensor size is around one inch, which works best in the low light shooting.
In addition to the above factor, the lens of Mavic 2 Pro has an adjustable aperture, while Mavic 2 zoom has not an adjustable aperture. However, only professionals need to use this feature because changing aperture can negatively affect the sharpness of the image.

Video quality on Mavic 2 Pro vs Mavic 2 Zoom

The continuous auto-focus feature of Mavic 2 zoom lacks in Mavic 2 pro. Other than that, the video quality of both the drones is perfect due to the best colors, higher bitrate, and a new video codec. The higher bitrate works great with the 4K video recording. In addition to this, the recorded videos are compressed by the camera before saving them to the SD card, and it all depends on the bitrate. In other words, the higher the bitrate, the lesser compressed your video will be, and the finest will be the quality. Also, the new video codec, H.265, works perfectly for both of the drone cameras.

🏆Winner: DJI Mavic 2 Zoom

Comparison of performance

Mavic 2 Pro has a better performance in terms of colors, which allow the drone to accurately capture around a billion colors and hues. However, Mavic 2 zoom works best when it comes to zoom camera feature, and provide the best results even in the huge crowd, and from a distant location. The camera in Mavic 2 Pro is known as the Hasselblad camera and is responsible for providing the power and unparalleled image quality. In addition to this, you can get an intelligent flight battery for Mavic 2 drone versions for additional money.

Comparison of battery

Compared to the previous versions of drones, Mavic 2 series have the longest battery life. These drones are compatible with the intelligent flight battery of DJI. Both of the drones have a range at a maximum of 31 minutes, which is definitely not a huge increase. However, it works perfectly and has given the ability to the users to capture a wide range of shots. The previous version drones have ranged between 21 minutes to 27 minutes, which is much less than the new Mavic 2 versions.

Our Final Verdict

There are some basic and small features available in both of the drones, which can’t be compared in detail. In addition to this, both versions of Mavic 2 pro are foldable. This means you can easily carry them along with you anywhere without getting worried about the big size of the drone cameras.

In the end, we can’t suggest one to the users because both of the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 zoom are one of the finest drone cameras of the Mavic 2 series.  But if you prefer a drone with wide zoom and quick focus function or one that can shoot cinematic looking videos with breathtaking visual effects. Then the Mavic 2 Zoom might be the right choice for you.

However, both of them have some features that are better than the other. The above-described detailed comparison will make it easy for you to choose the best for them depending upon their priorities.
